writing poems

Poems. Its hard to explain how annoying it is to write a poem under pressure. I remember writing poems for school projects all the time, it was so annoying I hated it so much! Later I realized I was getting better at my poem writing. So I developed a strategy.
1. When you get the assignment or you just feel like writing for the heck of it, start to think about what the topic is or what you want to write it about.
2.Take a break. Go get a ice tea or coffee but what ever you do....DO NOT....think about your topic for more then thirty minutes it will drive you insane trust me.
3. Come back to your project after an hour or so, now that you have had time to breath you can start thinking about how you want the structure to be. Start to rough draft your poem.
4. Edit what you like and don't like about your poem so far and then fix it.
5. Once you are satisfied put the poem down and walk away. Otherwise you will keep looking and looking and always find a flaw in it, it will never be perfect to you so please don't keep looking at it.
6.Give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate your win :)))
my example poem
Life is like a carnival
Carnies, clowns, booths, and monkeys.
Roller-coasters, up, down, loop de loop
Fortunetellers with bad news
Like walking on glass with no shoes
Mirror mazes, cant find your way
Praying to god you dont miss the day
Spinning, spinnging till you rebuke
Round and round till you puke
Overwhelmed by everything
Scared to even look at the ring
Welcome to life
The carnival life
I hope this info is helpful to you and good luck to you in the future and now! I hope you think of my strategy every time you write :)

I could have used these tips back when I was in school. Now, I write when I want or, should I say, when my muse gives me inspiration. I've long given up trying to force something onto paper. It works for some but not for me! Voted up and interesting too!
